The Benefits of Invisalign

No Dietary Restrictions

Those who undergo orthodontic treatment using traditional metal braces have to follow strict dietary guidelines. Hard foods can dislodge metal brackets while sticky foods can cling to wires. Invisalign trays are removable and require no dietary restrictions. As always, we advise avoiding overly sugary foods to lower your risk for tooth decay.

Discreet Treatment

Invisalign's unique design and SmartTrack material allow the trays to remain virtually invisible when the patient is wearing them. In order to maintain this discreet feature, we ask our patients to regularly clean their trays using a toothbrush and water. Using toothpaste to clean your clear aligners may leave a white film on the aligner trays.

Comfort

Metal braces require periodic tightening of wires. These adjustments to the braces are often uncomfortable or even painful. Invisalign treatments align teeth through gentle micromovements. By exerting gentle yet constant force over the surfaces of your teeth, you can enjoy greater comfort compared to traditional metal braces.

Safer for Sports

If you or your child play sports, metal braces can be a liability. When contact is made with the mouth, the metal brackets and wires can potentially cut the soft tissues or cause other types of injury. Invisalign trays are designed to fit precisely, and the smooth plastic surfaces are designed to avoid irritating soft tissues.

Are You a Candidate?

If you are seeking a comfortable and discreet treatment to straighten mild to moderate misalignment in your teeth, you may be a great candidate for these clear aligners. During your consultation, one of our doctors will assess your candidacy for Invisalign treatment. If you have severe alignment issues, our doctor may recommend traditional braces to help you achieve a straighter smile.

Candidates for Invisalign should also be willing to wear their aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day. Failure to commit to this requirement may result in undue discomfort or an extended treatment timeline.

 Candidates for Invisalign often have:

  • A desire for discreet treatment
  • Crowded teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Overbites or underbites
  • Open bite or crossbite

Before your orthodontic treatment can begin, any existing dental issues like tooth decay or gum disease will need to be addressed.

What Will My Treatment Timeline Look Like?

At each step of your treatment using orthodontics, the dedicated team at Beck Pearce Dental will be there to answer your questions and to provide useful tips. You can expect that your treatment plan will involve:

Consultation

The first step of your orthodontic treatment begins with a consultation at either our Cincinnati or Mason dental offices. We welcome you to ask any questions that you have about your treatment plan. Your cosmetic goals will be discussed and our advanced iTero digital scanner will be used to take impressions of your teeth. Those digital images will be sent to an Invisalign lab that will manufacture your custom aligner trays.

Treatment

After a few weeks, your aligners will arrive at our office. During your next visit, your dentist will give you basic instructions on how to wear and care for your new aligners. Then, you will be asked to place the tray over your teeth to ensure that the aligners are a proper fit. Once you are fully informed about the basics of wearing and maintaining your aligners, you can leave our office and resume your day.

Checkups

Regular visits will be scheduled about every six weeks to check on your progress. Each set of aligners is designed to bring your smile closer to proper alignment in small increments. You will begin wearing the next aligners in the series every two weeks. With each new set, you may feel a slight pressure on specific areas of your teeth. We recommend beginning to wear each new set of trays right before going to bed for the night.

Maintenance

Clear aligners require less maintenance than traditional metal braces, but good oral hygiene habits are still important. Care should be taken to ensure that food particles do not become trapped inside the trays. Patients should continue to brush and floss as normal. Your aligners can be cleaned using cool water and a toothbrush.

Final Results

Once your treatment plan concludes, another impression of your teeth will be made. This image will be used to manufacture your custom retainer. The retainer is to be worn at night to prevent teeth from shifting out of alignment. With proper care, including the daily use of floss, you can enjoy your results for a lifetime.
